The Healthy Living Network has been pioneers new ways
of bringing people together to create better health and wellness
for all by using health promotion and community engagement
methodologies. The Network works with local people, community
organisations and the health service to encourage healthier
lifestyles in South Manchester.
The Network provides access to a range of health and wellness
improvement activities including:
- Volunteering and employment opportunities
- Working with local health professionals to run Stroke
Prevention classes
- Training volunteers to deliver chair-based exercises
- Running cook and taste sessions to promote healthy eating
- Providing health information at Wythenshawe Forum,
Withington Community Hospital (with Macmillan) and Burnage Health
Care Centre
With over 200 members the network is already working in
partnership to create better health in South Manchester and
increase awareness of services among older people through come
dancing events, afternoon teas, men's MOT health checks and
promoting mental wellbeing among young people.
Volunteering with the Network can be a pathway to employment
and gaining experience and skills in health promotion
and is open to all residents in South Manchester
community.
Training focuses on major killers such as bowel cancer,
cardiovascular disease, obesity and mental health.
The Healthy Living Network's highly trained and committed
volunteers also act as a vital link between people, health
professionals and local communities. Volunteers are involved
in developing healthy activities in local community centres,
helping people access local health services, giving Stop Smoking
advice, providing up-to-date advice and finding out what local
people need to improve their health.
