Manchester Stop Smoking Service employs trained specialist stop
smoking advisors who offer one-to-one support to people who want to
quit smoking. Advisors work in various settings across the city
including the three Manchester Hospitals, Health Centres and
Clinics.
We also commission, train and support others to help people stop
smoking, including staff in GP practices, pharmacies and staff in
children's centres.
There are also weekly community stop smoking drop-in clinics
that run across the city. They are currently based in 12 locations
including local markets, community centres and supermarkets.
The stop smoking service also leads on the Manchester Smokefree
Homes Scheme. This initiative aims to protect children and those
who do not smoke from the harmful effects of breathing in other
people's cigarette smoke (second hand smoke). People are encouraged
to register their homes as smokefree and agree to step outside away
from their homes to smoke and contact the service to get support to
quit. The service also promotes smokefree cars.
Manchester Stop Smoking Service is free of charge and open to
anyone who lives or works in Manchester. People can refer
themselves, or be referred by others, by calling 0161 205 5998, by
texting smoke and their name to 81025 or via our website www.stopsmokingmanchester.co.uk.
