The Eating Disorder Service (EDS) is a city wide service
offering a range of psychological interventions to patients with a
range of eating disorders. The service also offers supervision,
teaching and consultancy to other health care professionals.
The Trust's specialist Eating Disorder Service (EDS) is
psychological therapist led and provides city wide specialist
assessment and psychological therapies to clients with eating
disorders including: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge
eating disorder and eating disorder not otherwise specified
(EDNOS).
Services provided include:
- Assessment and diagnosis of clients referred to the
service
- Specialist assessment and advice to commissioners regarding
appropriateness of funding for clients referred for in-patient
admission within the private sector
- Direct clinical work using evidence-based psychological
therapies and treatment consistent with NICE guidance
- Clinical supervision/consultancy to other health professionals
including in-patient work and consultancy where appropriate
- Routine audits of aspects of the service
- Teaching and workshops for local mental health practitioners,
trainee nurses and trained psychologists
- Support for local self help groups
- Liaison with other eating disorder service providers including
consultancy, service development and peer supervision
- Service development through close work with commissioners and
other service providers in the development of eating disorder
services across Greater Manchester
The EDS is a city wide service available to patients with a
Manchester GP, offering a range of psychological interventions to
patients with eating disorders.
The service is largely based at Gaskell House, where the
majority of out-patient appointments are provided.
The service is open Monday to Friday but in order to improve
access to the service for patients who cannot attend during working
hours appointments are also offered in the early morning and
evening.
