Joining the library

To join, view our Terms and Conditions, and complete a membership form, and hand it to a member of library staff or post it to us. If you are not in the Trust staff directory please be prepared to bring in a form of ID such as your staff photocard to confirm your identity.


Requests to obtain articles and books

Articles: If you cannot access an article with your NHS Athens Account via the A-Z of journals, we can order a copy for you. Please complete a document supply request form, ensuring you sign the copyright declaration.

Books: Please contact us with as many details as possible, including author and title.


Health information leaflets - how to order

We stock a range of health information leaflets in the library, and can also assist you in identifying suitable leaflets and ordering from various leaflet suppliers such as the Department of Health.

Support for decision-making: access to the evidence base

Ensure you have the best evidence to support clinical and management decisions. A search and enquiry service is available to individuals, teams and groups, Communities of Practice, Professional Forums and Committees.

Training - develop your information searching skills

The NHS Evidence Databases have a wealth of healthcare evidence, but if you need to few tips on how to improve your search techniques in order to get the best out of them, or don't know where to start, we can help! We offer tailored training to Trust staff for individuals or small groups of staff, from introductory sessions to advanced search techniques, or a quick refresher. This can be arranged at a time and place to suit you. Contact the Library ( or Outreach Librarian ( to arrange this.

If you need support with your general IT skills, we recommend the drop-in sessions offered by Informatics and Development. Sessions are publicised via the staff intranet and Midday Mail.

Library Service quality standards

We aim to respond to requests within the following timescales. We will let you know if we are unable to meet our usual timescales for any reason, for example staff shortages.

Our opening hours are Monday-Friday, 9am- 4.30pm. Please bear in mind when submitting requests outside of these hours that they will be dealt with as quickly as possible the next working day.

  • Responding to email enquiries - within 24 hours
  • Items requested through our document supply service - delivered within 2 weeks (we will advise if there is a delay due to availability of the item or we are unable to obtain the items for you)
  • Literature search requests - delivered within 10 working days

Library Service evaluation

If you would like to provide feedback on the impact or any comments on the Library Services to help us improve and develop the service please contact us. An Impact Survey Template and Consent Form are available to complete and an interview can be arranged.
