Gateway Referral Service

The Gateway Serviceis the first point of access for referrals made into the Trust. This service has been rolled out across Manchester following a successful pilot of the scheme with Central Manchester Clinical Commissioning Group.

Alll new referrals made into the Trust, including those for adults and later life, routine and urgent, primary and secondary care, will now be made through this point. The Gateway Service will accept referrals for persons who are not currently open to a Trust service.

The Gateway service, staffed by a team of dedicated administrators will receive referrals from GPs using the Manchester Integrated Care Gateway (MICG) (for more information GPs should visit the Trust's GP webzone). The team will offer direct advice and guidance on the most appropriate service and/or route into services for people in need.  The service will also receive referrals via Manchester City Council Contact Centre, other professionals and self referrals from service users and carers.

Anyone considering making a referral into other mental health-related services may also wish to consider whether the service user's needs could be met through other alternative resources, that do not necessarily require a referral through Gateway.

Referrers can contact the Gateway by phone (0161 882 2400) during office hours (09.00 to 17.00 hrs), Monday to Friday.

Or  download and electronically complete the Gateway referral form then email to

After 5pm and on weekends, access to services will be via the existing arrangement (i.e. Mental Health Home Treatment Teams until 9pm and Crisis Line after that).
