Dementia and memory services

Young Onset Dementia Service
The Service is available to Manchester residents who have been diagnosed with dementia before the age of 65. It offers post-diagnostic counselling and support for the person with the illness as well as to carers. Individual or group work is available depending on the need and preference of the service user.

Admiral Nurse Service
Admiral Nurses are mental health nurses that specialise in supporting carers of people with dementia. They work with family carers and people with dementia in the community and other settings. Nurses offer the provision of a range of therapeutic approaches and work closely with families to provide practical advice and develop key skills for treating family members with dementia.

Memory Clinics
The Clinics, based at Laureate House (Wythenshawe Hospital) and Park House (North Manchester General Hospital) assess and diagnose the nature of a person's memory difficulties. Referrals are taken mainly form GPs and an initial assessment is carried out by a specialist named nurse to discover the individual's needs and therefore subsequent treatment.
